Review # 2 was written on 2021-02-08 00:00:00 Kevin Paquette This was an absolute roller coaster. The first 100 pages were entertaining enough, but very little happened. Oh and I mentioned the last book had no Frodo and Sam - this one was ENTIRELY Frodo and Sam. Which was fine, but I did miss the others a bit. Meeting Faramir broke the monotony so that was cool, and when they actually got into Mordor towards the end the story picked up again. Then, the worst chapter of writing I've ever read in my life happened. Not becuase the writing was bad, but because it featured the most disgusting, horrifying description of a giant spider ive ever read in my life. You thought Aragog was bad? You thought the Elder Scrolls spiders were bad? You thought Lolth the Spider Goddess of the drow was bad? THEY ARE NOTHING. I wanted to throw up. It was such a short section, and yet I was in so much pain. Then (i said it was a roller coaster) came one of the sweetest and saddest things I've ever read. To avoid ruining it, I'll just quote a little: "It's your Sam calling. Don't go where I can't follow! Wake up Frodo, my dear, please wake up!" So overall, I only rate book 4 four stars, because to be honest, I felt like I could have basically skipped until they meet Faramir and I wouldn't have really missed anything. Good writing and stuff, just a little too drawn out. I love detailed descriptions but it has to be coupled with actual plot. |
