Review # 1 was written on 2014-09-05 00:00:00 Dustin Robinson It was a book of two halves, or perhaps two tones. The early chapters of the book were more encyclopedic, and there was tendency to feel overwhelmed by names and locations and schools and nations and... lots of things. Later, the chapters become more reflective, more "critical", examining what is being discussed in more depth. Even then, those chapters felt more reference-y. So, if you want an in-depth examination or criticism of science institutions or educational facilities or science communication, this isn't perhaps the book for you. If you want a reference book to guide you through the development of those things over time, this is perhaps the book you need. I shall be keeping it on my shelves for reference. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-05-23 00:00:00 Bryan Scott This book was handy in that it made me realize I don't enjoy reading historical surveys nearly as much as in-depth writing on one person or one specific topic. It was entirely too broad in scope; not sure what they were trying to accomplish. Could be a useful reference book in the future though. |
