Review # 2 was written on 2017-05-22 00:00:00 Jeff Smith I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This book is a re-release of a book that was originally released in the 80’s. I would have thought considering that because of it being a re-release that it has thoroughly edited; however there is a lot of spaces between words missed making it at times hard to read. There is also a use of a weird spelling of Boleyn (Bullon) before switching to the accepted spelling. It also then goes on to call her Nan Bullon once she is dead; I know that people of the time would have referred to her differently once she was dead but because its historical fiction it would be more consistent and easier to understand if the same name was used all the way through. The novel starts with Henry on his deathbed looking back at his life and gives a really nice basic overview of the era. It tells the majority from Henry’s pov which is really interesting and unusual. Henry is shown in his weaker moments and when he is younger, showing the difference between him as a young person and an older man, especially after his head injury. The characters are really realistically portrayed and I like that actual speeches that where said at the time are used. I love that references to the past queens are littered all the way through, including the chapter names being named after the symbols of the queens. The novel ends really well.
