Review # 1 was written on 2019-04-14 00:00:00 Andrew Nagy Covers Major-General David Belchem career from joining the British Army in 1930 to 1950. He started his career in the Royal Tank Regiment and served in Egypt and Palestine prior to WW2. After the disaster of Greece was posted to General Montgomery's Staff prior to El Alamein and remained with him during the North African campaign. Planning for Invasion of Sicily, Sicily campaign, Italy and then returns to the UK to work with Monty planning Overlord. Was on Montys Staff during the invasion and until the surrender. The book is well written and I found the details fascinating. The authors experience in planning the Invasion and the campaign through Europe should not be missed. The reader will get a great insight into the character and mindset of Monty, an oft misunderstood figure. I also found the details on Arnhem and Montys actions at the Battle of the Bulge new and enlightening, required reading. A rare book that has been forgotten, well worth the read. |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-01-16 00:00:00 Darrell Cooler After reading this book, I am uncertain as to why the public school system would invest so heavily in dry, poorly written texts. This is a fascinating and well written account of England's history that was difficult to put down. |
