Old book, found dusty and dingy (my house) hidden in the shadows of a shelf. was looking for a book that could be read in a night then quickly forgotten, a light read to entertain but not stress a tired mind. the cover's crinkled jacket showed boats, boys, birds, and water. I thought "Oh, i like them." and started to read. why read the description when you can judge a book by the cover? After a few chapters I realized I was board to tears and slightly aggravated that I can't understand Gallic. The book was put down with the harsh intension of never picking it up again. It was a surprise the next day when at work I couldn't stop thinking about it. Hit me unaware, of how much the characters had already drawn me into their "lives". Their stories. As soon as i made it home that night That discarded book was quickly sought out and read with a grateful clearer mind from cover to cover. A far cry from sterile or p.c. world we can so easily allow to cloud our vision. Was a story like a grand ma, or older relative, would tell. With descriptions and words of a world forgotten. just like lives viewed through eyes that witnessed them. Hard work, struggles and pain, laughter and love, Friendships, family, loss and gain, all held together with a sort of old school magical realism . The kind found in the old Folk tales before all the "fluff" was added in. (i.e. Fairies were Never tiny little creatures with pretty little wings!) I have to say, not the best writing in the world but so full of humanity. ended like an old movie. Kind of like eating a good meal and no longer being hungry but not quite full. Brought all the stories together but still leaves you somehow wanting more. Though it is done being read am still enjoying it so much : )

Another 'random book I found in the library'. I went into this with zero expectations and found myself loving it. It's set in the Scottish island of Skye during the English occupation (I think so???) and it's a quasi allegorical story with a very bittersweet conclusion. 4 stars.
