Review # 1 was written on 2020-12-19 00:00:00 Kyle Horner This book was brought to mind when my son, after a gap of more than 15 years, recalled a long-forgotten catchphrase: "Sweet dreams... Moonbeams.... Strawberry ice creams..." and we racked our brains for a while to remember where it came from. My children adored this story when they were small, and I loved reading it with them. It's about a group of friends who go to the seaside for the day, and the wonderful things they do there: they travel on the train, visit a fortune teller, swim in the sea and buy a magician's hat. The romantic pair of pigs get a tattoo, and gentle old Mr Kasimir scares everyone when he goes swimming because he happens to be a crocodile. At the end of the day some precious things get lost, but the rather enigmatic little girl magically finds them again. Lovely. |
Review # 2 was written on 2008-08-24 00:00:00 Allen Rogers What a great way to introduce youngsters to Pieter Breughel's lovely painting, as well as to a narrative poem, by Ruth Craft, that describes all the activity on the canvas. I'll bet many a child has written her own narrative poem about all that action at The Fair! |
