Review # 1 was written on 2014-09-08 00:00:00 Joe Ackerman While I wish I had read this with some background into the history and politics of Latin/Caribbean America, I still really enjoyed reading this book. Pablo Neruda is known primarily for his love poetry but reading Song of Protest, I was able to see a more social justice and political side of him. Although some of these were hard to follow without knowing the history, his passion and fierce beliefs are apparent. The notes provide a little bit more background but not much past a name and very brief explanation - however, I am glad I read the whole book, because "Written in the Year 2000" and the narrative of his funeral are so beautiful, earnest and political, earning this book the 4 star rating. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-05-07 00:00:00 Christopher Murray An inspiring collection. A few of my favorite poems from this book are: "I Come from the South," "Do Not Ask Me," and "Written in the Year 2000." |
