Review # 1 was written on 2015-02-03 00:00:00 Brett Houser This book is really about the mid-90s and early 2000s research trends. I'm quite disappointed actually. I was expecting a lot more than just the surface level analysis that is offered in Discourse and Identity. Covers a range of topics but that just serves as an easy reference. I hope there are better books on trending research approaches out there; that don't make discourse studies seem like a thing of the last century. Sorry authors. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-05-23 00:00:00 Donovan Kilmartin Nice read, quite difficult at times. Information density is very high. It seems as if the authors can't quite grasp some of the concepts. The chapter on feminist narratology was quite nonsensical and the paragraph on cybernarratology was beyond the authors. On the whole a nice overview of narratology, a good primer. It shows both the value and the shortcomings of structuralist and postclassical narratology, seems to favor the latter and is eclectic in the concepts it examines. |
