This book was written by a professor of mine at Eastern University. Dr Unander is a great guy, very knowledgable and sincere, but energetic and fun. This book is an examination of the roots and myths of racism. He talks about the rise of the concept of modern-day racism--why it was deemed necessary as a theory, how it was explained and justified, and how it has been perpetuated. One of his statements is that there is more genetic variation within a flock of geese or group of apes than there is within the entire human race. Hey, he's a biologist--he ought to know!

ah yes, this would be my last coontz book for a while. to be honest, it's not really her's. there are two other editors, yet alone all of the articles that were written. as all collections go, some are better than others. my favorite example of a not so good one was "family on fault lines." i think the word family was mentioned like twice. the rest of the time was spent talking to the working class about race. interesting, but not really about how race affect family. now, it could have been that they excerpted that one poorly, but it did not inspire me to find that book/article. anywho- goal was accomplished, horizons were broaden. there are more than just middle class white families out there affecting culture. lol, like i didn't already know that. but it was really nice to read about it.
