Review # 1 was written on 2011-11-20 00:00:00 Jonathan Villalobos I loved this book because I truly love the work of Jasper Johns. Like the artist himself, I've never really wanted an explanation of his work. The mystery and pattern captivate me. The use of color and pattern and the reuse of thematic elements piques my interest and makes me desire to see more. When I see a Jasper Johns painting I feel freed of all expectations about representational art. I also get a great laugh out of some of his pieces. One in particular is his "Painting with Two Balls" circa 1960. To me it feels like this painting is self-deprecating humor personified.
