I took many notes in this book and underlined points that I need to remember. This is a 2002 publication but still worth reading

I started reading 📖 this book a long time ago. Probably 2.5 or 2 years ago. I stopped at about 40%. I picked it up again today. Hoping to finish reading it this time. So that I can put it away and have some space in my bookshelf. 😍 Although it seems outdated 😳- but it has some useful, interesting, and funny stuff/information/ content. So far 👍🏽 good read. Okay so as I finished reading, I went back and reread some of the letter/ email sample/examples from the beginning. Some of it was hilarious. Look at this part of an email, for instance, "Just wanted to let you know that you'd better forget about the random . . . It's a dumb idea that will never work" (14), and or vs. "there is some confusion about the new . . . (15). This book really shows you how to be mature and serious about the workplace communication. However, it's really a beginner's guide. Freshmen, college students, recent graduates, or anyone entering the workforce can benefit from this book. It's somewhat old-fashioned as it's almost a decade old. In the beginning it tells you proper ways of emailing and the 'To', 'From', and 'Subject line'. I laughed at this one. Also, in the Presentation section, it talks about PowerPoint and Microsoft Word and all the different effects and features they offer. Although, everyone these days knows and works very well with both the PowerPoint and the Word, but it's still relevant. Despite many other fancier forms of presentation such as Prezi etc., video/digital storytelling, PowerPoint is still most commonly used. A wide range of Web applications such as google slide, Canva, Zoho Show, Apple key note, and others have taken place of the original PowerPoint software. I still prefer PowerPoint. Some information in this book is really useful such as all the examples about how to write an effective report, a proposal, a business letter, and how to write good instructions. Additionally, it emphasizes on the importance of crediting and proper sourcing when writing not only research papers for school, but always such as in a speech, or letter, or whatever kind of writing of communication you're engaging in where you're using another person's ideas or words. Although I know now and learned how to cite sources when I was in college, this book was helpful in reinforcing that knowledge and learning more about how to cite quotes properly etc. I also greatly benefited from reading 📖 this book mainly because I am a former English Language Learner and this book greatly emphasizes grammar and all accepted/appropriate communication. It also has good sentence shortening examples that can be helpful when writing to avoid unnecessary information and being direct and to the point. Great read! Fun reading, good useful information. Highly Recommended!
