I have to admit, I could not get into this book. I don't know if it was because it was dated (2007 copyright date) and I knew more research to counter what I was reading because more research has come out since 2007 or if it I just wasn't into the style of writing. In short, the book focuses on studies that show charter schools to be more effective than public schools. Now, some charter schools are more effective than public, and some public schools are more effective than charter. A lot has happened in public education since 2007; No Child Left Behind initiatives have been severed, standards have been changed, and more of an effort to educate the public as to what kids need have been publicized. However, there is still A LOT MORE that needs to be done! In short, I didn't find this book worth reading at the present time.

Tried to be too many things. It might as well have been titled "How to be a teacher and a social worker". Used personal quotes and opinions in lieu of research.
