Review # 1 was written on 2007-06-26 00:00:00 Marla Walker I read this book because I care for a lot of patients who have HIV and I wanted to understand how to explain the illness in more layman's terms. I also wanted to understand some of the challenges faced by people with HIV. This book is good for both of those goals. It is very basic, which can be kind of boring if you're a healthcare provider. (There's a whole chapter on HMO's, insurance, etc). If you or someone close to you has HIV, I think it's one of the best books out there. The author is definitely knowledgeable and one of the most well-known in the field of HIV. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-05-17 00:00:00 Frank Patrick This is a simply written book aimed at a non-medical population about the physical, neurological, and psychological aspects of sleep. I happened to glance at it on the library shelf when getting another book so I picked it up, as I am convinced I have an abnormal amount of REM sleep with endless dreams that leave me exhausted after a long night of them. It didn't really help with my hypochondria, but I found it well-written and surprisingly scientifically thorough (in a simplistic way), with references to interesting studies and some fairly detailed information on the neuroscience of sleep. |
