I have two poems in this book. So does Seamus Heaney. Pretty good company. I'm most proud, however, of having a poem in the same book with Marco Pantani. Pantani was the last man to win both the Giro d'Italia and the Tour d'France in the same calendar year (1988). He was also a painter and a poet. His poem closes this terrific anthology of every decent bicycling poem ever written. Pantani was also a tragic victim of his own demons and the machinery of big sports money, dying alone in a Italian Riveria hotel room on Valentine's Day after a suicidal drug binge.

A very eclectic collection of poems in which the bicycle is either front and center or dancing in the wings. A bit heavy on the early poetry of the bicycle; there's a lot of lyrical verse odes to "the Whee" that got tiresome. But more than worth it for some of the more modern gems. And I finished every reading session inspired to ride, which is all I could ask for.
