I loved reading this book. Growing up in Arkansas, I have always known about the Crisis at Central High but actually knew shockingly little of the big policital picture and how the closing of all the Little Rock high schools was part of a bigger plan by the governor to have a separate private system funded publically that remained segregated. I knew it was an ugly history - but didn't know it was *that* ugly. This group of women were so impressive in terms of what they accomplished. It was disappointing to read about how they didn't take things far enough at all (they were a "white-only" group) but they did take on big establishment and affect real change. I cringe to think about how much further Faubus' plans would have gone without the pressure from these brave women.

3.5 stars. Good research on the discourse on the families and revolution in early Soviet decades.
