Review # 1 was written on 2020-04-30 00:00:00 Anthony Vallant Westbrook has a collection of essays compiled into this work. Each chapter focuses on a specific ANE legal issue, discussing the various issues surrounding it. He offers where scholarship is currently at on with interpretive issues, and analyzes the various positions and their legitimacy. The 7 chapters focus on Abraham's purchase of the Cave of Machpelah in Genesis 23, jubilee laws, redemption of land, biblical levirate laws (kinsman-Redeemer laws), price factors in the redemption of land, undivided inheritances (or co-heirs), and dowries. Each provided a great gloss of the issues and a helpful summary and interpretation of each. Westbrook is very scholarly in his work and his insights have personally been of great use to me in my own research! |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-06-24 00:00:00 Roi Boyd Very interesting book tracking the common cultural ideas developing about Tiki carvings after the arrival of Captain Cook. Quick read with lots of pictures, not a lot of detailed depth. I want to know more, this book was like an appetizer. |
