Review # 1 was written on 2017-08-27 00:00:00 Ole Barre The westernised view of language, gender and sexuality from the Prof. Paul Baker is very useful to know basic definitions and ideas of gender, sexuality and their use in English language. I opened many stigma after reading this book. The use of the term Queer means not just homosexuals, but the term could be applied to those who are not homosexuals but they are marginalized themselves because of certain characteristics. He also mentioned McLuhan and history of homosexuals in Greek and medical science. The Taboo chapter explores many unnoticed incidents in western society like manslaughter, paedophile. Prof. Paul Baker visited University of Bremen during Summer Semester 2017 as a part of lecture series on Language and Gender. |
