Review # 1 was written on 2008-06-10 00:00:00 Steve Doe Good well cited account of US-Uzbekistan relations until 2004, but a little light on content. After endnotes and appendices, there are only about 120 pages. This was published before the Andijon massacre in May 2005, so in four short years this book is quite out of date, but it's good for background. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-12-30 00:00:00 Eric Soucy This is an in-depth review of the rise of the Taliban out of the ashes of the Soviet war and US/CIA intervention. Rashid does a really good job of explaining the complexities, religious ideology, and human rights atrocities committed by the Taliban. |
