An informative read, written more than a decade ago making proposals of what steps could be taken to rebuild Zimbabwe after Mugabe is gone. I guess I am a bit too critical but there are instances in the book where I feel he expresses eurocentric views for instance he carries out a small research in South Africa if black people want land or jobs and he makes a conclusion that they more interested in jobs than with land. Of course jobs answers the most immediate concerns of unemployed youths but one must never be mistaken that Africans do not want their land.

This book is a nice little summary of the potential problems that confront Zimbabwe when change happens. Hill's central thesis, namely that some preparation is required to transform an ailing, corrupt regime into a functioning democracy, is certainly sound. There is not much new, however, in the book, and those who have followed the news closely in Zimbabwe over the last few years will find little to surprise them here. I found the details of particular torture reports very disturbing.
