In his opening Editor's Note, Bloom attempts to weaponize smug condescension with an effort that would make The Donald proud. It's an exercise in back-handed compliments that denigrates the works of Bradbury, helping to crystallize the perception of the literati as out-of-touch. I'm going to focus most of my critique on the editorial choices when putting this mess together. Over half the book is focused on The Martian Chronicles. Around thirty percent is focused on Fahrenheit 451, and comparing it to other works. There is a single essay on his short fiction. There is a single essay on children, focusing on Something Wicked and Dandelion Wine. Of everything I read in this mess, I gleaned no insights which I had not already arrived at without their assistance. Far too often, I encountered examples of absurd English Professor Overreach. This is my second attempt at one of Bloom's Modern Critical Reviews. After struggling through the Stephen King one, I knew what to expect, and I had no patience for attitude. I didn't bother to finish, and I won't bother picking another one up. It is a small blessing that I checked it out from the library rather than wasting any of my personal money.

Overall, a decent amount of essays. I didn't like Bloom's preface, it almost pushed me back from reading the rest of the book.
