The series comes to a close as friendship is tested when Cooro's past comes into question. But the ultimate question is 'Why do you need your Anima?' Once you don't need it, it will leave you. But how will you know when you're ready? Overall, this series is whimsical and delightful but it deals with darker subjects like slavery and prejudice. There are also elements of mental illness and emotional trauma as well so that may appeal to some readers. Personally, I found the series entertaining, though the ending seemed a bit rushed. I would recommend it to younger readers around ages 7 or up. This series has 10 volumes.

There are unanswered questions and no insight into what the characters plan to do with their lives. I would like more information. A chapter at the end, of the future with the group grown up or something, would have been cool.
