In the version of the tale retold by Christine San Jose, the original tale remains fairly intact. The largest difference is that instead of humans, the characters in this story are Dormice. One change in the plot is that instead of having a total of eight fairies at the celebration, this version has only seven, with the six being invited and the one being forgotten. Instead of a Prince coming to waker her, a common Dormouse, who had heard and never forgotten the tale of the sleeping Princess, awakens her. The illustrations in this version of the tale are done in colored pencil and are quite cartoonish. This version of the story is clearly for younger children.

Lovely illustrations -- the characters are enchanted-looking mice.
