I wish the conclusion had been the introduction of this book. Dogology is a light-hearted look at the types of people who have dogs. It starts with a simple quiz to help you figure out your type, then moves onto descriptions, what breeds are best for each type, how well different types get along, and even what your Dogology type says about your love life. At first blush, it's fluffy and silly. That I couldn't find a type that really suited me made it feel that much more pointless. But, it is well written, and clearly well researched. It has footnotes. Footnotes are hawt to nerdy girls like me. So I kept reading. It's well written and funny, even in the parts that weren't otherwise impressive. The authors clearly love dogs, love the people who keep them, and have done a lot of research. Once I post this review, I'm going to track down some of the references they used. The conclusion is what turned this book around for me. In it the authors talked about how much they learned from doing the research for this book, and how they hope the book will make other dog people more mindful, encourage them to really see and understand themselves and other dog owners. They also talk about encouraging non-dog-owners to appreciate dogs and those who keep them. It's quite touching, and makes the whole rest of the book make much more sense. It's a quick read, and fun, and may teach you something you didn't expect.

As well as having the cutest raggedy puppy on the cover, this book intrigued me because it combines personality types with dog breeds. Which type of dog owner are you? I'm a Soul Mate. Which dog breed are you and which dog type complements you best in your significant other? If you visit dog parks, you might also have fun picking out the types (people and dogs) described in the last chapter. A fun read.
