Review # 1 was written on 2017-08-04 00:00:00 Louis Obrien I am a huge Old Time Radio (OTR) show fan. I have been listening to these shows for years. This has led me into researching the history of the shows; I have also written and directed several live shows in the style of the OTR days. So, it can be said that I am obsessed with OTR. This book is written for someone like me. The stories are written in the mannerisms of the shows and their characters. This is good for OTR fans, however it is bad for the casual reader. A person who is not familiar with these characters or how the shows are written will not understand a majority of the jokes or may find the writing style jarring. In short, if you know the running jokes about Jack Benny being cheap and the dangers of Fibber McGee & Molly's closet then this book will make you laugh. If you are familiar with the story telling style of the Whistler and Johnny Dollar then this book is for you. If you have no idea what I am talking about then pass on this one....however, if you are curious I recommend listening to some of these shows first and then reading this book.

Review # 2 was written on 2015-02-04 00:00:00 Marc Lasecki Using the female characters in detective series that were aired or meant to be aired on radio, the author provides brief entertainment bios of several radio actors, both male and female. Some of these characters appeared in dime novels and serializations before becoming radio characters. Thus it is also somewhat literary criticism. While the author alludes to chapter numbers in his text, none of the chapters are numbered. As he relates the history of these radio shows the author reminds us of how much has been lost in the way of historical documentation.
