Review # 1 was written on 2020-05-16 00:00:00 Timothy Heidt I have had this book for a few years and I am rearranging things so that my cookbooks are more available. I also have more time to bake and thought I would bring this one down from its niche and look through it for whole wheat cookies to surprise my husband who usually does much more baking than I but the more traditional things like chocolate cookies for the grandkids. (BTW - they have rated his choc. chip the best ever.) But as I paged through the book I realized why I had it up on the top shelf. There are so many recipes that use Hodgeson Mill pre-packaged mixes as the basis for their recipes. I need to sit down and mark the recipes with stand alone Ingredients for better reference. I did find a recipe for spice molasses cookies that I know the grandkids would never ever try, but my husband and I would enjoy. (White Whole Wheat and Molasses Crinkles.) I used regular whole wheat flour and they turned out great and were easy to do. The recipe yielded around 40 cookies. The directions said to sugar the balls and place them on the sheet. (I used silicone baking sheets instead of the parchment paper.) The cookies did not spread so the next tray I pressed them down with a fork. The sugared balls were more cake-like when done and the ones I pressed were very crisp but of course a little bigger.
