#2 Task Force Valor 3.5 stars. The ITEB has been tracked to a possible supplier in Panama. CIA Agent Mary Walker and Task Force Valor arrive in Panama to track down its whereabouts. Except things don't exactly go to plan. Everyone seems to be on Isla Coiba. Pirates who have their hideout there. The Mudman, who lurks in the jungle seeking to 'release' people from the island. A biological expedition of grad students led by their professor. And of course, Task Force Valor. How do all these threads tie together? Can they recover the ITEB? Who is the supplier? I did struggle to get into this book to begin with. For a start, while the format of #1 is kept, Gayle Roper isn't on the writing team for this story and I noticed the difference. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but having just finished #1 and then going into book #2 I noticed the style change immediately and found it difficult to adjust particularly as I had liked the style of #1. There are also a lot of characters to keep track of and lots of scene changes in the beginning which I also struggled to get a handle on. I really recommend reading this series in order. There is a lot of background information in #1 that will help you with this story. Also you will have met the team, which gives you some familiar faces to ground yourself with. I really appreciated that I had got to know them in #1 before reading this one. Having said that, once I got the characters straight in my head and the story threads all started to pull together, I got into it more and ended up enjoying it. I did like the tropical scenery of Panama and in particular Isla Coiba. It was a great setting for this story. In one place there was strong language used. In the author's defence though, I think this word is quite mild in America. However here in the UK it's quite strong so fellow Brits might want to take note. Now moving on to #3 where everything comes together as the series conclude. #1 #2 #3

Excellent and suspenseful. Holton's first solo fiction book is a win. Realistic action results from Holton's firsthand knowledge of Panama and his life in the military. This is the second in a thrilling three-part series. Check them out.
