My sons loved this book. The idea is fine, sort of like a vegetable Wizard of Oz where the vegetables long for what's outside the fence and find out "there's no place like home". Actually, the story about the vegetables is being told by a little girl's grandpa, who senses she wishes to be somewhere other than where she is right now. Nice enough premise, but my biggest problem is with the illustrations. I've never seen an angry vegetable, but Mr. Ebbeler certainly must have! The illustrations make the story seem darker than it needs to be and, again, while the story is fine on it's own, the illustrations make the moral a little less friendly than I would have liked.
