Review # 1 was written on 2007-07-03 00:00:00 Lew Klein Yuval has taken heat for the honesty of this book because he gets outside the (sadly) ongoing polemics between Judaism and Christianity. His thesis is that much of what comprises current practice in Rabbinic Judaism is a response to Christianity. He carefully traces many threads through the inner dialogue of Jewish writings in Antiquity and Medieval times.

Review # 2 was written on 2011-01-22 00:00:00 Rory Lozano This book is a must read for those who oppose the modernization and reformation of authentic Judaism. Klugman manages to create, a balanced yet respectful, well researched account of the fierce fight between the reformists and the orthodox traditionalists in 19th century Germany.
