Review # 1 was written on 2017-03-09 00:00:00 Stephen Kostovich While researching breeds of dogs to add to our family, I stumbled upon the virtually-unknown-in-the-United-States breed of the sturdy, shepherding, working Bergamasco. Bred in Italy initially to work alongside lonely mountain shepherds, this is a unique and beautiful breed with a temperament unlike other dog breeds. This book, written by one of the best-known and conscientious Bergamasco breeders in North America, gives an in-depth look at what makes these dogs so unique and special ... from their corded coats to their personalities that mirror your standoffish best friend, rather than a pet. I am fascinated by them because of this book. Because of our lifestyle and geographical location, I think a Bergamasco might not be as happy as it could in our home, so we ended up with a different breed of dog. But if you need a great working/herding farm dog, want a dog who has a unique and special bond with your children, or want to be a cool hipster with a REALLY cool dog (I mean, these dogs have braided/locked hair ... how cool is that?) ... check out this book to see if the Bergamasco is for you and/or your family. |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-06-15 00:00:00 Michelle Brown I took notes as I read this book. It's highly informative. That said, the writing is a bit dry at times and a more than a bit too technical for people who have little or no medical background. Still, I believe this book holds value for all dog owners, as it it covers a broad scope of topics. At times Dr. Dodman seems a bit pedantic, at times almost humorous. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I recommend it. |
