Review # 1 was written on 2013-08-19 00:00:00 Chad Strosnider This is extremely good history, written by the men who were there. Stone has added just enough information to guide the reader through the personal accounts of men who were actual members of the Evans's Brigade. Approximately 10% of the Confederate soldiers from South Carolina served in the Evans's Brigade, and this much needed addition to Civil War history is the first published history of that brigade. On a recent visit to the Confederate Museum in Charleston, SC, I learned that the ladies of the UDC, who were greeting visitors that day, had never even heard of the Evans's Brigade and that there were no resources regarding it in the museum. The general impression might well be that the war was fought by Virginians and that South Carolina was no more than a minor participant. |
