Review # 1 was written on 2014-08-06 00:00:00 Stephen Mckeown This is a memoir of a family's adventure. While it's the dad who actually runs the Yukon Quest, this is the type of sport that involves the whole family and Ann does a marvelous job of relaying their story. From the descriptions of the personalities of their dogs to the details of daily life in Alaska to the actual running of the race, I found the story fascinating. Ann does a wonderful job of sharing a lot of information in a fun and interesting manner. I had a special affinity for the book as a woman married to a man who likes to push his limits. One note; the story is told from Ann's perspective. While she shares George's experience on the trail, it is not a moment-by-moment report of the experience of the days running the Quest. Rather, it is the story of a family on an almost year-long quest and what happens to all of them.

Review # 2 was written on 2010-07-25 00:00:00 Robert Mendez I wanted to read a book set in the Yukon while I was in the Yukon... and it seemed that most of the books were about dogsledding, which I wasn't that interested in. But this book was written by the wife of a dogsledder from the east coast who decided to move to Alaska and try to run the Yukon Quest dogsled "the most grueling dogsled race." There was more of an emphasis on the personal sacrifices and strains that went into making the race possible - the race itself was only a small section. I actually really enjoyed reading it, but I felt that her writing sort of petered out at the end of the book. I would have liked to hear more about what happened to their family and relationship post-race. It made me want to visit and take a tour of some of the racing kennels up in the Yukon, but no one else wanted to because they hadn't read this book.
