Although I like reading poems I found it hard to finish this short book. The author bases her poems on photographs taken by Jason Stemple. She gives each photo its unique poem to help the reader view more than just whats infront of them. My favorite poem is Scottish Beach and Coastline because it talks about houses near the beach stretched out on the horizon; which also has to do with the title of the book. My favorite place to go for vacation is the beach.

Personal response- What I liked most about the poetry book was that it has amazing photographs of sunsets, deserts, and mountains that go along beautifully with the poetry about each photograph. I find it fascinating the illustrator decided to go with actual pictures instead of paintings or pastels which makes the book unique. Math vocabulary is used in the book with the horizon poem (as there are fourteen small poems) and metaphors in the sunset horizons poem when it says, " When the ball of fire touches earth...Nothing but night can put it all out." The picture of a sun setting helped me infer that the ball of fire is the sun and it sets when night arrives. Sunsets are my favorite time of day so that is another reason why I liked the book. Purpose- Second grade would be an appropriate grade level because the poems are not difficult to read and provide good examples of figurative language like similes and metaphors. A science lesson on horizons and how the sun creates different colors in the sky at different times of day would be fun for the children to learn and read about.
