Well, its an older book for 2017, but I imagine for its time when it came out it provided a wealth of information for children. Now, I can see it being too boring for students or young children. It provides a great layout of non-fiction text features and provides accurate information, but does not seem to be an intriguing read. I am guessing for young kids who enjoy horses would find this book marvelous.

Our youngest is horse-crazy, so she borrowed this book as well as Shetland Ponies and Thoroughbred Horses, all by the same author, from her elementary school library. As with the other books we've read in this series (Pinto Horses and Arabian Horses), we've discovered that they contain the same chapters and much of the same information. Still, we enjoyed looking at the pictures and our girls love how beautiful these animals are. We brought our girls to some stables to ride and learn about how to care for horses this past weekend and much of the information in these books was reiterated there. We plan to sign them up for riding lessons and I expect we'll be in a horse-crazy phase for some time to come. Feb 2012 update: Our youngest has borrowed this book a couple of times.
