I've had this book for something like 8 years and never read it, so I figured, what the hey, it's October, Halloween, ghost-y type time... Let's knock this one off the TBR pile. It's a smaller size book, and short-stories to boot, so I was hoping it would be a quick and interesting read. "Shadows on the Wall" was very nice and erotic, I highly enjoyed that aspect, especially the little bit of kink, that was hot. But it was also kind of depressing. I have a real hard time thinking of my significant other dying, so it made me sad. "Obon" wasn't really erotic, at least not to me. Sure the character had 'visions' of a dead person making love to someone in life, but it was her mother's 'ghost' or whatever, so not too erotic there, thinking of your mother. But it was very sweet how at the end she gave some of her mother's ashes to the man she had loved in life. So it was more of an unfinished business kind of message the mother was sending back, to make sure that the man was able to mourn and have memories. "Fireflies" was interesting. I really liked the idea of the old hotel and the Civil War ghost. It was steamy and naughty without being overly graphic with words, and I rather liked it. The end was a little dark, but I didn't mind at all. "The Skin of My Soul" was not erotic at all to me, but I thought it was kind of a nice little story. I liked the author ghost and the rediscovery of her book. It was ok. "Descansos" was pretty good, I liked the way the main character was haunted. It was a little warm in a couple of spots, but I wouldn't really call it erotic. It was also a little sad... But I liked this one well enough, especially the end. "Dead Letter" was kind of funny, though I'm not sure it was meant to be. I liked the little twist of who the 'ghosts' were, and the way the couple in the story were brought closer through it in the end. The end was a little cutesy but it was ok. Still not real erotic though, I've read hotter scenes than what was here, though it wasn't badly written. "A Rotten Obligation" was pretty good I thought. I really liked the ghost aspect, it was neat. Reminded me in a way of the way the main character in Blaze was haunted, down to the bossy, pain in the ass, not such a nice guy ghost. It still wasn't very hot, but I liked it as a ghost story, and I liked the way it ended a lot. "Only in New Orleans" was better on the steam scale, and I found the ghost very interesting, as well as the girl he was haunting. I kind of liked how it was a little more romantic, but that also made it a little sad too as they were in love, but since he was a ghost they could never really 'be together' unless his spirit possessed someone else. So while it was sexy and nice... It would still be a bit of a difficult relationship, lol. "Sleep Sweetly, Tender Heart, in Peace" was interesting but a little weird. Was the guy just crazy or did he really kill her and it was her ghost, or what? I was left feeling a bit confused and wanting to know what was going on. But it was ok. "Lonesome Little Blue" was very warm, and sweet, making me wonder where was the ghost? But then it was revealed, and it shocked me a little bit. It was also a sad one, and I even got a little burning feeling in my eyes from the emotion. I liked it though, the author had a very easy to get into style, it was very good. "Hunter" was good, I especially liked the setting of the little remote colony of cabins where people go to write. The characters were interesting too, I liked the poet's ghost. The end was good too, easy to imagine. I liked it. "Stone Love" was a pretty good ghost story, though it was another one that wasn't really erotic. I still liked it though, the different ghosts in the house and the little bit of spookiness were neat. I also liked the way it ended, sort of like a good old fashioned ghost story. "No One Left is Real" was good and steamy. I liked how there was that little sense of possible danger too. The ending was a bit of a surprise twist, but it was good. "Fat Chance" was weird, like, really weird. When it ended I was mostly just confused, like WTF was that that I just read? I just didn't get it. It was neither erotic or spooky, just weird... "He Flew Away" was kind of gloomy but interesting. I liked the little bit of mystery, and the ending too. It was unexpected, and didn't entirely explain the mystery, but it was good. "Old Spice" was alright, it had some hot spots, and I found myself interested in finding out what was going on, the characters and all that. But I was left feeling not real satisfied, and a little confused. "Golden-Eyed Jack" was excellent, probably my favorite in the collection. I loved the subject of past lives, and the idea of being able to see into my past lives is awesome. I'd love to know all about 'em, y'know? I liked the main character, she didn't take no shit, and it was cool. But the best part was the ghost, the reveal of who it was and what it had to do with her past lives, and the bit of romance/love story aspect it had. I really, really liked this one! "The Tinkling of Tiny Silver Bells" was another one I really liked. The character of the ghost was interesting to me, I really liked her, and I liked how her personality in life caused her spirit to kind of get lost, leading her to go back to an old friend for help. It wasn't really too erotic, but it was a good little story. "Taurus" was another weird one. It started out good, I was interested in the characters, wanting to see where the story was going, but then when they got back to the house, it just got weird. I don't know what Gil was, what he did to Taurus, I have no idea, I was confused by it. Was it supposed to be like a metaphor for something, or was he like a demon or something, or what? I just don't know. "Tigers Above, Tigers Below" was pretty good, I liked the feeling of frustration, and the appearance of the coins, and how the main character got to do what she wanted in the end. I didn't like how her husband was so blah and close-minded, I'm glad mine's not. I'm not a fan of infidelity, but I still kind of liked this story. All in all it was an ok collection. I was rather disappointed though that it wasn't more erotic or kinky or something. There were a couple stories I really liked, most were just ok, and a few were downright weird and hard to comprehend. I'm glad I finally read it through and got it off my TBR pile after all these years, but I was really hoping for something with a lot more oomph, more smut, more something. I give it a flat 3 Stars. If it weren't for those couple of stories I really enjoyed, the rating would've been a lot lower.

I was disapointed in this collection of stories. I guess I was putting too much of my expectations in it. Some of the stories didn't even seem like a ghost story at all. Only in New Orleans Elyn Selu and - Lonesome Little Blue, O'Neil De Noux were the highlight of the book. I do have to say I am not a huge short story fan and this might play a part in my less enjoyment of this book. I was looking for a book to go with a Erotic Ghost story birthday party..this one did not fit the bill.
