This is a fairly good birding guide to Montana. Though I "dipped" on a couple of target birds, Three-toed Woodpecker & Ruffed Grouse (however I did hear one "drumming"), I did make good use of this guide to find nesting Harlequin Ducks in the McDonald Creek in Glacier National Park.

Montana, Big Sky Country, has many stories and legends about both the people and animals who have called the state home. Gayle Shirley chose ten to write about. The book is much too short. The stories are short, under 1000 word, essays about the chosen topic. They are a strict recitation of the facts and read like a newspaper item. The subjects are of interest. Some are more famous outside of Montana than others. The book is fast, easy to read. It is a fair introduction to the animals written about. Some may pique curiosity enough to check into them further.
