It's really sad how back then people were near starvation since food and every other item had to be rationed out because of the war occurring at that time.

The author's purpose in writing this book is to inform. Uschan is trying to give the reader a better understanding, and more knowledge of what life was acutally like during the 1940's. The theme of the book would be to appreciate what you have. The reasoning behind that is because we can sometimes take for granted that we have freedom. This book goes down in detail about how America went into war, and how postwar had an impact on everyone. Without all of these brave people, there's a chance that we would not have what we have today. The style of this book would be a description because it talks about a certain time period. It was very effective and could draw the reader in, and give them a better understanding of what life was really like during the 1940s.It also made you realize what people actually went through during this time period, especially with the war. My opinion on the book is that it was a very good, interesting book. It went into torough detail about life during this time period. I liked how the book gave different perspectives from different peopled ruing this time. I disliked how it sometimes got repetitive. I would n ot change anything. It is like no other book that I have read.
