Nick Spath Biography Young man in the White House John Fitzgerald Kennedy. By L.E. Levine. John F. Kennedy the only assassinated president in the 20th century, the youngest man ever in the white house. What amazing things he did in 2 years in the white house. Well seems like enormous amount because the president last few terms haven't done much but it was a president left behind from presidents before him. The book made me learn a lot about the issues he had in office and life before office for him. The author had a love for history but I don't think he knew how to express it well he was rather long and drawn out about simple things. He was rather boring to listen to. As a whole informational book it was good. It gave you insight of what Jacklyn Kennedy had to deal with and an insight into the Cold War. It's just not something you want to pick up in your spare time and have a nice read about before bed. The most interesting fact I found from the biography was that it wasn't Mr. Kennedy's dream to become the first catholic in the office but it was his brother's, who died in world war 2 as a fighter pilot in England. After he died, and the war was over Mr. Kennedy was lost on what he wanted to do a military hero in the Pacific, his dad an ambassador for England talked him into running for Massachusetts House of Representatives, from there the senate and then the president. It was kind of ironic what he was giving a press conference for when he got assassinated. He was trying to get more civil rights for African Americans. When his right to live was taken away. Probably from a radical white believer in my opinion. The most famous quote from John F. Kennedy was at his inauguration he tells the people “ And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you-ask what you can do for your country”.(Kennedy, pg 7) This quote laid out his actions in office. From the Cuban missile crisis to the Peace Corps. He asked the people what will help our nation and keep us around. His next quote isn't as famous but still important to an organization that is still around today. “Our generation has been frustrated in wanting to participate in foreign affairs, but we have had no outlet. The Peace Corps gives us a chance to go out and solve the problems we hear so much about day by day.”(Kennedy,pg 174) It was the first action of helping other nations, underdeveloped nations into helping them without military service or charity work. He was getting the youth of the nation to teach kids in Africa life lessons and schooling. These 2 quotes I really like not only because he followed up on them but because he was such a fluent speaker that gave the public inspiration in such a dark time. John F. Kennedy a great president and a incredible leader. He stood up for the nation even though we were on the brink of war. He kept us out of war but also kept the United States as a major Super power of the world. How much he did in two years was nice but I wonder what he could of done in two terms of office.
