I think I should stop reading these gimmicky cookbooks! With the exception of slow cooker cookbooks they are always TERRIBLE. I want these kinds of books to teach me how to use my appliances to greater effect. Sailors (like myself) often times have a rule for their ships--if something doesn't have at least 2 uses, it can't come on board. While I don't (currently) live on a boat, I try and have the same rule for my life. If it's not a book I'm going to reread, I don't buy it. If it's not a thing I'm going to use multiple times in multiple ways, I don't really need it. So the idea of making a blender become a real and regular part of my kitchen repertoire was really exciting. Unfortunately, the book was really lame. All the smoothie recipes relied heavily on pre-purchased (and not particularly healthy) things, like cranberry juice cocktail. The whole smoothie section relies heavily on a variety of juices, in fact. Juices actually aren't that healthy for you (No, really!). They are filled with sugar! Contrary to the popular belief that Juice is "filled with nutrients", juicing a food item removes it's insoluble fiber, meaning that those nutrients can't be processed by your body because they are lacing the 'binder' your body needs to be able to actually ingest said nutrients. This book wasn't a total flop (I mean, I didn't wish the writers or publishers dead or anything. And hey, I'm a hater so I often DO wish that when I hate a book!!). I was just really bored and unimpressed and moderately disgusted by the amount of sugar most of these recipes contain. Not my thing, not particularly useful, and not actually healthy.

I have made many of the recipes in this book. My family has loved them all. The gingered pork and pineapple was awesome. Though I substituted sweet potatoes for the carrots. We loved the Jerk Roast with rice and the orange mustard pork chops. We also love the curried roast & carrots. If you can't find a recipe in this book then you don';t have any imagination for food.
