I purchased this because it has details about one of my passions, Blairsden - built by Clinton Ledyard Blair in Peapack, NJ. Blairsden was designed by Carrere & Hastings. Blairsden is a 62,000 sq. foot Louis XIV Chateau-style, 38 room mansion built between 1898 and 1903. It will be open to the public for the first time in decades in May 2014 as part of the Mansion-in-May event in Morristown and my daughter and I get to be docents for a few days! If you want to see how the 1% lived in the Gilded Age - this is a must have book!

The standard reference book on C&H, architects of masterpieces such as The Frick Collection, The New York Public Library and the home that is now the Neue Galerie. Great historical and contemporary photographs, a comprehensive catalogue raisonne and replete with thoughtful, insightful essays. Now, who is going to make the effort to bring out David Gray's 1933 monograph?
