Review # 1 was written on 2015-02-13 00:00:00 Bede Harris Before I begin, there are a few books with similar titles. The one I have read several times and recommend is Linoln the Unknow by Dale Carnegie. There is also one entitled The Lincoln Nobody Knows which I haven't read.I am a big fan of Lincoln since I became a Civil War enthusiast in junior high school. If you are unacquainted with Lincoln's life, I suggest you don't start with this book. There are errors in it. The first one I found in scanning the chronological events was that the author labeled Lincoln the eighteenth president. That would have been Grant; Lincoln was the sixteenth president. What I found in this book were errors, presumptions, innuendos and assumptions with at most circumstantial evidence, more often with no evidence at all. Rather the author is more inclined to sophistry rather than sticking to the facts. There is an extensive bibliography at the end of the book, but from the writing, the errors, the sophistry, it seems to indicate that he had others do the research on which he relied, and that he himself knew very little about the sixteenth president. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading the book, but if you want an honest picture of Lincoln, read a better researched and better written edition.

Review # 2 was written on 2014-05-18 00:00:00 Stuart Bazzle Very interesting book on Lincoln that asks some very important questions about his upbringing, views and decisions that affect us all. From the basic question as to who was his grandfather (Thomas Jefferson? JC Calhoun? Jefferson Davis's dad?) to why did he allow the Constitution to be trampled? Why did he allow so many opposition leaders to be arrested? Did he have the legal authority to require conscripts? Paper money? Was the entry of Nevada as a state legal? Was West Virginia legal? Many more questions raised in each quick 5 page chapters by leading scholars.
