Every Christian ought to be familiar with the lives of Adoniram Judson and his wife Ann, early missionaries to Burma (present-day Myanmar). This book was a special joy to read because it contains so much content from their journals and letters. The Judsons truly knew what it was both to live and to die for Christ, and they are both on my mental list of heroes. If I love my Lord half as much and serve Him half as faithfully as each of them did, I know I'll hear Him say, "Well done." They knew what it was to leave all they knew and loved for the sake of Christ, to be faithful when they saw no fruit, to lose their children to death, to suffer unspeakable torture and agony of heart, to be ill, discouraged, and alone, and to focus through it all on the joy that was set before them. I think perhaps Ann Judson's life could best be summed up in a sentence from a letter she wrote to her sisters: "A little while, we are in eternity; before we find ourselves there, let us do much for Christ."

Ann Judson! I was inspired reading about the first female missionary from the U.S. I didn't know until reading this that Ann was the first missionary to start a Bible translation in Thai for Thai workers in Burma.
