Review # 1 was written on 2018-12-21 00:00:00 Laj Van Opstal This is a great resource for people who want to study/teach Indigenous literature in their classrooms, particularly for Settlers Canadians like myself. Eigenbrod offers reading strategies that are based in figuring out one's own position and privilege. She argues that recognizing and understanding your position as a reader and scholar vis-a-vis a literary text is crucial to an ethical reading. Well-argued, well-written, great bibliography full of Indigenous writers and scholars. |
Review # 2 was written on 2008-02-26 00:00:00 Jennifer-anne Toth These were fascinating stories both of Ukrainians' experiences in a new land - Canada, as well as some of the more horrific experiences that many Ukrainians endured during WWII, particularly in the concentration camps. I enjoyed learning more about "my people." The stories and poems were touching, humorous and eye-opening. |
