Review # 1 was written on 2014-06-05 00:00:00 Chad Dean This slender book is a history of a WW I American unit which came to France four months before the war ended, stayed for 10 months, saw no military action of course, in fact did little of anything outside of routine maintenance and drills, and then returned home, most of the members then being discharged. It is written by a member of Battery D in an odd stilted way, but has some interest in giving a day-to-day account of the daily life of the soldiers, especially during the winter of l918-19 when mud and recalcitrant mules and horses were the biggest frustration. Four men died, three of pneumonia, and one from a machine gun which exploded during firing practice. The tone of the book is resolutely patriotic - all is for the good of the USA. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-05-29 00:00:00 Ken Shiloff Once again I finish one of these books and am left to write a review with nothing that I have not already mentioned in the previous reviews. To recap: I do not have proper qualifications to review; I read them too quickly to give the review a fair chance; it's hard to "review" works like these; the free PDFs are awesome. I should probably copy and paste this review from now on. :) |
