I was intrigued by the idea of the book but the presentation was a bit on the offhand. Most of the stories held the rich and famous (yes I understand they have the money to go splurge on people but that truly isn't love) with a few "commoners" thrown in. At the same time the backgrounds to the stories were either foreign countries, New York or Hollywood. All of this of course still sticking with the fact that many of these "romantic gestures" of course could only be afforded or done by those that had lots of money to throw around. So yes I didn't like the book due to its material-based nature with its open message that splurging large amounts is the way to go. The reason, though, why I gave it one more star more than it should have been is the stores they did include did have a variety so you had those you knew like Layla and Princess Grace along with those that most haven't heard about such as Saints Francis and Clare. Furthermore some of them did show just a peek that not all had fairytale endings such as Charles Lindbergh but had lives with tragedy sprinkled in thus marking them as human with the rest of us.

Quick read. Fun and interesting stories. Fun to hear the details about some famous love stories from history in a bit more detail but not too much. Definitely an appropriate read for this month.
