Review # 1 was written on 2013-12-01 00:00:00 Collin Harvey I picked up the paperback of this work from UBS in Dunedin. It's a volume in the Blackwell History of the World Series, and evidently it's getting use as a college text. I was interested because I was looking for a work with a world history approach to use as a text in my course on the history of Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately, this isn't it - mainly because it is so badly written. The topical approach is good, and the synthesis of research is good, but the authors write like social scientists, not historians. There is a review-of-literature rhetoric evident, along with stilted language throughout. Too bad. A useful book, though. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-03-20 00:00:00 Don Alvis An excellent review of the decisions that shaped Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks over the first century of the park service and the years leading to it. It gives a solid overview without getting bogged down in details, and was an insightful read into the history of the park. |
