At the time of writing this review, there are two other reviews of this book on Goodreads. Both are mistaken, and they are responsible for wasting my time with this piece of rubbish. Both of those reviews are about Plato's Republic. This book, however, is not a translation of Plato's magnum opus. It's supposed to be a critical study of Plato's Republic, but in fact it's an essay from an apologist trying to defend Plato's philosophy with the most dogmatic arguments. Here, I have summarized this book: Everything Plato said is correct. Everybody who disagrees with him is stupid. Plato's cave is literal, not figurative. You didn't know? How stupid. Political idealism is the best. Since liberalism and democracy are not perfect, a totalitarian regime is our best solution. Liberal democracy is bad, bad, bad. Savvy? Liberal democrats are pigs. They are animals, because they think justice must serve the strongest, aka Darwinism. I have revealed their secret. Now, let's start our selective human breeding program. Some forms of art are parasites feeding on the society. Individual is meaningless. We shouldn't care about the individual. Society is all that there is.

I loved this book and still do. It's actually the base of the Matrix and other movies and almost all people come to this realization on their own but few have put it down in writing. The basis is, how do you know what you believe is real actually is? If something you hold to be fundamentally true is off just a little everything that is built on the assumption of that is also off. In the end your whole worldview could be wrong. In the Matrix the assumption was that they were actually living when if fact they were asleep and plugged into a machine. The world they lived in was made up. They had to 'wake up' to experience real reality.
