This was a wonderful book. As a physicist, I found the story behind the development of modern physics to be fascinating. The personalities involved and the battles fought as our understanding was evolving are generally left out of a student's experience, and Capri's work aggregating them helps for a more complete understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed every page. I would strongly recommend this as a good read for someone interested in relativity and quantum mechanics. It might not be as interesting for a non-scientist. There are a few editing issues. The occasional typo. Sometimes paragraphs from early sections are reproduced almost verbatim in later ones as the story comes together. These sorts of things weren't big issues for me, but they were obvious enough to notice, and the only thing keeping this from 5 stars.

Brilliant! Fascinating, well-documented account of a lost art. I could almost hear the doleful dirges described.
