I should have known that something describing the crimes of the Borgias would not be fun, but I was not entirely prepared for how not fun this story was. Nonetheless, Dumas tells it extremely well and I was riveted the whole way through. The Cenci story was a surprise (the audiobook I was using didn't mention them in the title) and I am now irrationally furious with a long-dead pope because Beatrice did not deserve a single thing she got.

Nothing better to start Lent then to read about a murdering Pope...at least I felt bad for Cenci. I am curious where the show, history and the story of the Borgias mix and are similar and different. A little more research is needed.
