Being concise and to-the-point is Harvard Business Review's style. The book has a good thesis development and some critical comments. First, it defines the term 'diversity', then the misconceptions about diversity, diversity-related conflicts, benefits of diversity, and ends with how to foster an inclusive environment and maintain cross-cultural communication. Some ideas that I appreciate include the author's acknowledging that prejudice doesn't always come from majority members; prejudice does not flow in one direction from the majority towards the minority or the underprivileged. Hesitating to address an employee's low performance or bad attitudes (for fear of being seen as prejudiced) might lower everyone's overall performance. Therefore incentives and diversity-maintaining programs are as important as the recruiting process. The part about Cross-cultural Communication (CCC) is brief and trite as compared to other books specifically on CCC. Yet, there are plenty of self-tests, tips, tools, e-learning links, eBooks, online and library sources for you to dig further should you want to enter corporate management.
