A brilliant idea pulled off. Bruce Fogle decided to retrace the 1962 steps of John Steinbeck and his poodle Charlie on their "searching for America: round trip.. His canine companion is his golden retriever Macy, a "beautiful puppy" according to most of those who meet her on this trip. The result is a humorous, insightful tale of a North America coming to terms with post 9/11 world and the imminent war against Iraq, packed with information ranging from a tree that used be named after Karl Marx to the horrors of industrial farming.Highly recommended read.

Story of a British veteranarian's trip through North America with his dog. Some folks might be put off by discussions of politics, but it's otherwise a cute story.
